In recognition of his exemplary research and outstanding service to the community, UC Santa Barbara Professor Francesco Bullo has joined the 2019 class of fellows of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).

“It’s a great honor to be elected fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics,” he said. “It’s a great recognition by my peers of the work done by my research group over the years.”

The recent publication of a paper in the Public Library of Science journal PLOS ONE by UCSB scientists drew some attention from the UCSB Current. In the article, Harrison Tasoff highlights current research on team performance underway by our MURI, including the deployment of the Platform for Online Group Studies (POGS, v2.0), and points to the successful collaboration among our team. We are proud to announce three graduate students have completed their dissertations and will graduate with PhD's this Spring.

Wenjun Mei is now a postdoctoral scientist at ETH Zurich. His dissertation was titled, "Modeling and Analysis of Social Network Dynamics: Propagation, Learning and Structural Balance." He was a Mechanical Engineering student at UCSB, advised by Professor Francesco Bullo.

MURI Co-PI Noah Friedkin was one of six UCSB faculty to be elected as a fellow to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) — the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of numerous prestigious journals, including Science. Professor Friedkin was recognized for his distinguished contributions to mathematical sociology, with special attention to network theory and its diverse sociological and social psychological implications.
